macOS Major Update Availability

Modified on: Fri, Nov 22, 2024 4:05 PM

When can I get the latest macOS major release on my WFU Mac?

To ensure the stability and security of your Mac, Information Systems (IS) manages the rollout of major macOS upgrades (e.g., macOS 14, macOS 15). Here's how it works:

  • Initial 60-Day Block: When a new major macOS version is released by Apple, IS implements a 60-day hold to thoroughly test and assess its compatibility with our systems and applications.
  • Incremental Updates:  Your Mac is required to receive essential incremental updates, including security patches, to keep your system protected. These will continue as Apple releases them to the public.
  • Early Upgrade Request: If you have a need or desire to upgrade your Mac to the new major version before the 60-day block expires, please contact the IS Service Desk. A member of the Client Services team will assess your request and assist you.

Stay secure and enjoy the latest features! While major macOS upgrades are optional, we encourage you to update your WFU-managed Mac for the best possible experience.  Please ensure you install all incremental updates and security patches, which are required.
