In Adobe's InDesign software, you can create your own scannable QR Code which your contacts can scan with their mobile camera app. From there, they can save your contact in just one step.

  1. If you don't have InDesign, follow our steps to access your WFU license and then install InDesign using the Adobe CC app. Estimated time: ten minutes
  2. Once installed, open Indesign and create your new document (default settings will be ok)
  3. Go to the Object menu, then Generate QR Code
  4. Follow the steps and select your options for your QR Code. You can set up your QR code to link to any of the following
    1. Web Hyperlink
    2. Plain Text: this opens a search for the text
    3. Text Message: starts an SMS text with the number and message specified
    4. Email
    5. Business Card: provides the option to save in Contacts
  5. After you enter your info, you can edit the options, but please note: if you edit, your QR code will change.
  6. Once you're ready to distribute and use your QR code, use the Export feature in Indesign (File, then Export). Multiple export types are available, but PNG is often the most flexible.
  7. Double-check: Test your QR code with your own phone's camera and familiarize yourself with how it will behave for those who use it.
  8. Pop your new QR code into your documents, a re-usable, portable "business" card, a sticker, or add to your digital signage.
  9. See the official article from Adobe, including more on the various options.
