Copyright Policy

The Copyright Policy of Wake Forest University is intended to:

  1. Encourage research and teaching by rewarding the authors of intellectual works, assisting them in implementing their ideas, and by providing a system for the encouragement of scholarship and creative activity.
  2. Serve the public interest by providing means through which intellectual works may be made available to the public.
  3. Protect the rights of the University, its faculty, its staff, and its students with regard to intellectual works developed at the University.

The Higher Education Opportunity Act requires that we communicate to all students about copyright and illegal downloading on an annual basis. Please read the letter from Information Security regarding Copyright Infringement.


Legal Alternatives for Sourcing Content and Software

  • Wake Forest University students have access to a large body of valuable software resournces at no additional cost. Visit software.wfu.edu to explore and install products including the entire Adobe Creative Cloud suite (24 apps including Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere), Microsoft Office 365 (including Powerpoint, Excel, and Word), SPSS, SAS and other data analytics tools, and more. 

  • Students also have access to millions of licensed templates, images, vectors, videos and 3D resources with Adobe Stock, newly included in our Adobe Creative Cloud licensing.

  • Stream or download music legally with Pandora, iTunes, or Spotify! Stream or download media legally with YouTube, Hulu, and Netflix.
